Go with X11SSZ-TLN4F + I7-7700T or suggestions ??

just finish with an ESXi low wattage home server build

I am think at maybe build another server like this as i have case, fans, psu, ssd and so on, so i am just missing the mainboard, cpu, ram.

so i thinking at doing the same board X11SSZ-TLN4F but with a I7-7700T instedt of the I5-7600T

Main specs.
Has to fit into ATX case
Low power, like TDP at 35w or there around
64gb ram
min. 4x SATA connector
BMC/IPMI - ikvm for headless
OS will be ESXi
min. 2x 10gbit nic
like to have 2 other 1 or 10gbit nic, but not an requerment
silents is important, low heat/fan and/or passive
Keep cost down

Some say the X10SDV-TP8F but that seems to run me up in cost do to EEC ram and maybe not as low watt


So what suggestions do you guys have another build. ?????

You won’t get silent with a build like that
I wouldn’t think. It would be very hard anyway, the 10G NIC’s need cooling even if you can get a good passive CPU cooler.

If you don’t have the NIC already at hand I would still be tempted by the Xeon-D you also for some reason also need very high clock speeds just because it’s all one package you know just works with ESX.

I need the 10gbit and prefer that it is onboard.

for the xeon board and cpu, do you have suggestions ? because the ones that i have looked at seems to just be alittle older boards with higher cost, tdp and likely more wattages

Well the older and lower TDP D-1541 boards sometimes can be had cheap.
The newer D-2100 boards are pricy and built more for performance than super low power.

Is a 4-cord D-1521 good enough ? Or the new D-2123 boards ?

Are you only after 2 x 10G or is more connections preference ? Fair fee options, rang in price from $400-$1000 in 4,6,8 core options

*expensive
*socket - can better reuse board with bigger cpu later

other then the cost, it seems that the i7 is better at lower tdp, more cache, higer clock per core, is newer cpu(and boards) , better reuse option.
so for me it is looking like that i7 is the better option here even that it cost more.

i use one 10g for storages (nfs) and one for VM.
some times i use an extra 1g for vm there is more isolated from the others and i better like the nic option then using the vlan... but it is not a most have and i can always just put in add-on nic

2015 or 2017 doesn’t really matter it’s all 14nm for intel, the ++ process or the latest ones trade some power consumption (yes increasing) for some clock speed.
Don’t forget some tdp is for the 10g parts on the Xeon D cpu.

If I was me I wound be be looking at the simplicity of d-1521 board but since having other systems that use rdimm that also makes more sense personally.

I guess only you can decide now.

yes at the moment i think that X11SSZ-TLN4F + I7-7700T will be what is likely the best for me.
+it is board is the same
+cpu can be changed, so easyer reuse later
+low tdp
+newer board and cpu
+guess newer pcie specs
+normal ddr4 ram
-more expansive

d-1521
++cheaper
-have to hunt for used boards
-use rdimm over normal ddr4 (seen fron an price and reuse point)
-higher tdp
-see posts in forum about high heat and neaded better cooling.


So at the moment it is more in the I7 direction then the xeon
