Hello everyone,

I am trying to find information for the below Intel ES and motherboard that compatible with those model:

QKGG
QKGL
QJVW
QJVY

I tried the Supermicro X11DPL-I but it won't boot into the bios with 4x32Gb ECC and it kept giving me error: "No memory DIMM detected, install memory DIMMs."
Thanks

ESXi 6.7 has a bug where you can't pass through USB controller PCIe cards unless you run the VM in BIOS mode, so no EFI Windows 10 (not that it makes that much difference in a practical sense, but it was a bitch figuring it out after dicking with it for days and finally figuring out why TF it wouldn't boot), and 2) You can't passthrough HID devices at all in ESXi (unlike KVM) so no mouse or keyboard unless (see #1)
I pass through USB2/3 controllers on 6.7 just fine with EFI. For HID devices i've been passing through the controllers to USB over IP software, and doing things that way

The recommendation at the beginning of the thread was to stay away from QE** V3 and stick to QF** for <14 core Or QG** for higher cores.
But I think lot of folks have used QE** V3 without issues. Motherboard compatibility is also a driving factor.

Hello.
Recently i have found some ES Xeon-SPs. These are QLKN and QLQ9. Sellers recommend Supermicro X11DPH.
But some of them says that X11DPi-N will also work, and some that this mobo is incompatible.
Should i even try ES Xeons or go with AMD 2990WX? Motherboard choice is not a problem.
Do i need special BIOS for Supermicro mobo?
I'm pretty experienced, but LGA3647 is a totally new platform for me.
Thank you in advance.

I think its a pretty general rule to stay away from ES and try to go for QS instead. The v3 haswell had many ES steppings before coming to a final version. I'd avoid the QE-codes entirely if at all possible. For E5-26xx v3 id look for QF or even QGxx. For E5-26xx id look for QKxx.
For Skylake-SP its QMxx. The are always variations among SKUs depending on what core count is in the package.
Its always a gamble if an ES will work in your motherboard. And will you get updates? A bios update might even brick the board. Or brick is maybe the wrong phrase. It might only work with QS and up.

You may be ok. Search thread and folks have been using QE* V3 without issues. Lot depends on Mobo.
I had a QH* V3 on my watch and but was busy in a meeting when the auction ended and it went for under $120 few hours ago

I'm using QLQ9 on x11dph-i. There is no need for any special BIOS. If you don't need server features, I would recommend 2990wx, unless you get a good deal for the ES chips.

Kupaloid, thank you very much! This setup seems perfect to my needs. 2990WX have very unbalanced memory subsystem - 2 "CPUs" from 4 does not have their own memory. Pair of Xeons have 6 channels each. Now i have to choose between 16 and 24 core model (2,8 vs 2,4 GHz stock, but both have x35 turbo, AFAIK). Also can you provide me with HWInfo or CPU-Z screenshot?

BTW, anyone can tell me, if Corsair Obsidian 900D is anyhow compatible with Supermicro X11DPX?

You can find screenshots on eBay if you are interested.

Kupaloid, these are not trustworthy. But i believe you. They guarantee moneyback. So i finally decided to go with ES Xeon SPs. Already reserved 2 QLQ9s.

Hey guys,

Can anyone list the x99 brands that will work with V4 ES?

I learned the hard way that no Gigabyte and no Asus will support them, only V3 ES. I saw in this thread that AsRock support.

What about other ones: MSI, Supermicro, EVGA and Intel?

Can't say i've tried every board/es cpu but i have an asrock x99 taichi as well as supermicro x10sra. both worked fine with QHUZ which is a 20 core v4

i've used 3 models and never had a problem the only requirement is latest bios for broadwell support in order to run V4 Cpus so these were as follows:

GA-X99UD4 - worked fine with ecc and no-ecc udimms, and also had moded bios which allowed E5 4627 V3 QS QH9E running all cores 3.2ghz overclocked easily to 3.3 all 10 cores - sadly there was no hyper threading..
GA-X99-DESIGNARE-EX currently own and running with XEON E5-2650 V3 QEYN, tested with 2133mhz no-ecc/ ecc udimms and ecc rdimms no issues whatsoever
MSI X99 GAMING 7 runs fine with E5 2650 V3 QEYN but now is running on with E5-2648L V4 QS QK9C
