Thanks for the tips on updating firmware. Amazingly helpful. Just updated mine to RA13. If I was a Linux guy, I feel like it would have gone quicker.

On Ubuntu
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install nvme-cli
sudo nvme list
sudo nvme fw-download /dev/nvme__ --fw='/__/8DV1RA11.bin'
sudo nvme fw-activate /dev/nvme__ --action=1
sudo nvme reset /dev/nvme__
sudo nvme list
sudo nvme fw-download /dev/nvme__ --fw='/__/8DV1RA13.bin'
sudo nvme fw-activate /dev/nvme__ --action=1
sudo nvme reset /dev/nvme__
You gave me s good example. I will try in red hat.

Update: My opening bid of $480 was accepted last night. Might be some room below that, even. Approaching $0.25 per gig for enterprise SSD? Yes please!

with which seller? there are a few ebay listings mentioned in this thread...
Probably the one he linked to in #45. Wish I saw his post earlier, could've saved $20, offered same seller $500 and was accepted.

Intel spec is at 4K, if you check the datasheet you'll find that 8K performance is almost identical to what Oracle shows.

Here are P3600 vs P3605 1.6TB in official specs

Keep in mind that P3605 is severely underrated in Oracle specs, sequentially it performs just like a P3600, while the actual random performance exceeds P3600 by a mile, eg: 4K RR Steady State ~100,000 IOPS, not to mention endurance rises from 3 to 5 DWPD (8.76PB/5Y - 14.6PB/5Y).

Anyone know if the F160 card can be used as regular ssd in windows os or if the Sun fw prevents that ?

unixsurplus had the p3605 1.6TB on sale over holidays for $47x. Bummed I hesitated and they went back up.

Received the one I ordered from the seller linked in post #45 yesterday and slapped it into a Supermicro X10 motherboard it had no issues with seeing the drive, FreeNAS was able to access it as well. AFAIK there's no NVMe support in smartctl on FreeNAS so I wasn't able to check SMART values.

Do you know if the PCI bracket is pretty standard spacing and can be swapped out with say one from an LSI card? I need a full height bracket on it, and I have some left overs from LSI cards I can use if they can fit...

Yes, the spacing is standard so any full height bracket with ~54mm spaced holes will work.

I really want one of these, but those 2TB micron sata drives going for $360 are pretty tempting. If I didn't already have a few 1TB 850s sitting on the shelf, I'd probably load up =P
