Hi!

for sale is a Dell VRTX enclosure, tower configuration with casters.
SOLD

: vrtx sth

If you don't know what it is, that's okay since it's not super common on here. It's basically a mini blade enclosure, that combines compute, networking, storage, and management all in a tower form factor (takes up 5U if rack mounted). It takes standard M620, M630, M520, M530 blades, has 25 SFF drives bays that can be shared via all 4 blades, a built in networking switch with internal and external ports, CMC management that allows you to control the entire enclosure, the blades, the storage, AND the networking, AND has 4 redundant power supplies.

Here's a run down of the specs of the enclosure I'm selling:

  • QTY 1 - Dell PE VRTX Enclosure, Tower Configuration, with all side panels
  • QTY 1 - Caster Kit for PE VRTX, allows the enclosure to be much more mobile
  • QTY 4 - Dell M620 Blades
  • QTY 1 - Dell R1-2210 10GbE Switch Module, 16 internal, 6 external ports (Extremely rare and hard to come by)
  • QTY 1 - Shared PERC8 Storage Controller /w BBU
  • QTY 1 - VRTX Chassis Management Controller Adapter (Enterprise License!)
  • QTY 4 - Dell 1100W Platinum Hot-swap Redundant PSU
  • QTY 1 - Dell PE VRTX Locking Front Bezel
  • QTY 9 - Officially Branded Dell Hitachi HUC106060CSS600, 600GB SAS 10K 2.5" Drive with latest firmware
Each Dell M620 is configured as such:
  • QTY 2 - Intel Xeon E5-2670 V2 Processor, 10 cores, 20 threads
  • QTY 8 - Samsung 16GB PC3L-12800R ECC RDIMM
  • QTY 2 - Heatsink, 44Y0T
  • QTY 2 - Intel S3500 SSD, 300GB
  • QTY 1 - Dell PERC H710P Mini with BBU
  • QTY 1 - Dell Dual-port Broadcom 57810s 10 GbE Network Daughter Card, JVFVR
  • QTY 2 - Dell PCI-e Mezzanine Passthrough Adapter, 3N9XX
  • QTY 1 - iDRAC7 Enterprise - Latest update INCLUDES HTML5 KVM!!!
Everything works brilliantly and without issue. M620s have 24 DIMMs each so they're virtualization workhorses. This entire box will net you 80 cores, 160 threads, 512GB RAM in a tower form factor. Like I said, it's a home lab in a box, plus it's quiet.

One of the other great things about it is everything can be done via a browser GUI. Yes, everything. Storage, networking, remote management, enclosure management. ALL of it. This load out has the maximum level of licensing that you need to do pretty much whatever you want.

In terms of physical condition, it's mostly in good shape, everything physically is in-tact however it has the usual scrapes and scuffs from being handled through the original end-user and then getting handed off to re-sellers and transported. Nothing major really.

My asking price is $15,000 $8,000.

Unfortunately this thing is a monster in terms of weight (however the build quality is very robust), so shipping through normal outlets isn't really possible. It would have to be shipped either via freight or local pickup only (Greater Houston, Texas area, Austin buyers welcomed if you want to make the trip as well).

Thanks!

So the blades don’t come with any ram? What’s the max ram these blades can handle?

bump, still looking to move this. updated OP, replaced the 12 300GB drives with 9 600GB official dell SAS disks.

planning on adding pics later this evening

Add RAM and you're good to go!

bump just because this thing is the coolest PC I've seen in 2 decades--seriously would be all over this if I had a need or the money.

Gotha Florida
I'm willing to let this go for $8,000 if someone from Houston or Austin can pick it up.
man this is killing me... just bad timing as I'm closing on a house and cant spend money now. If you still have this end of July let me know. I may sell off current hardware and be able to work out a deal with you. It will need to be shipped to Florida though :)
