Working on a new project for STH. This is certainly one of the best thought-out mining rigs I have seen. We had some discussion recently about buying mining cards in the 100's directly. That seems like a lot, but mining rigs can each have 10+ cards. Still, they look strange without outputs:

Arent those just GTX1060's, I can't imagine its worth the power to run those?
1060s are worth the power to run. Just not the sweetest spot in the Price/Performance/Wattage on the Nvidia Scale. Also hurts on the density side however this looks like it solves the density side of things. It will be interesting to see the price.

These are 16x P106-100 cards. Enough cards that they require C20 cabled PSUs. All driven from a single PCIe slot on a server motherboard!

Let me double check we are OK to start posting pictures.
You specifically mention a Server motherboard and 16x Does that mean we need a 16x slot that supports bifurcation? Or should I not read into things too much?

Patrick,

Are you planning a complete write up/article about this particular build in the near future with benchmarks?

The main issue I have with P106 is the resale value. Crypto crashes, they are valueless. At least with 1060's, there's some return. In fact, I assumed only a 25% resale value when calculating, and it significantly reduced ROI.

is that the 3gb 1060's or the 6gb ones or both? If your willing to be patient you can probably get a reasonable percentage higher that 25% on the 6gb via Ebay. Just don't panic like the rest of them and over a period of a couple of months dump them.

None actually. I have some 1070s that I got for a steal. Other than that I’m squarely in the AMD camp. Other than Vegas, never paid more than 200 for a card.

Patrick, you should be able to get those down in the 80-85w range without losing much or any hash.
