Hello,
I have a old sc826 case with 3gbps backplane
BPN-SAS-826EL2
I need 6Gbps so after a search i found the BPN-SAS2-826EL1 the 6gbps version.

Its compatible? Can i replace the backplane?

Thanks,

Be aware that the older 826 Backplanes, TQ and SAS1, did not need the metal support frame.

All newer backplanes does need the support frame so you have to be carefull, if you by usesd backplanes, that they Include the frame.

Can you elaborate on the *need*? To mount it properly or to support its weight?

The old mountig solution did use "pinns" on the chassi bottom witch holded the Backplane in the Case. Since the SAS2 And A Backplanes use the Metal Frame Supermicro left Cut outs in the pcb of the Backplane where the pins of the Chassis are.

Therefore it is not possible to mount the backplane without the Metal frame on the Bottom side of the Chassi.

Here you have a Picture:BPN.jpg

Interesting. I got 2 826 with the sas1 backplane without the frame. I remember replacing them with A backplanes without the frame. My memory may be faulty as this was around a year ago.

Year maybee there was an old Revision of the A Backplane?

All of them that i have seen over the years had the same Layout as the SAS2.

You are probably right and I am wrong here. This was with a really old chassis and used backplanes. I know the A backplane that I bought from eBay came with a frame.I seem to remember removing it from the frame to install. I can't check those out now as I am out on vacation but I'm sure you are right.
