My first Vega 64 or any Vega cards, I don't mine with Windows, so lots to learn.

I want to keep a note of my journey to tweak and mine XMR with Vega 64 or 56.

Open up the box from Newegg, install the new Vega 64 card in a fresh install Window host ( MSI Z87 gaming board with G1850 CPU , 4GB memory)
Installed the new AMD beta block-chain driver, custom install , selected to install driver only.
Windows power option: high performance , disable monitor sleep and computer sleep

Download xmr-stak-amd window binary , config Windows host to use large-page memory.
Here is my config.txt
Code:
"gpu_thread_num" : 2,
"gpu_threads_conf" : [
   { "index" : 0, "intensity" : 1932, "worksize" : 8, "affine_to_cpu" : false },
   { "index" : 0, "intensity" : 1932, "worksize" : 8, "affine_to_cpu" : false },
],
"platform_index" : 1,
Start mining XMR , 2000 H/s ( very happy ) :) , unbelievable good hashrate with 1 hour of work

Things to do:
try another miner
tweak memory , power setting , core speed of Vega card.
check power consumption

Buy more Vega 64 card when is onsale.

I am SO wanting to get into Vega GPU mining.

Edit: Thanks for posting the link to the guide.

Vega 64 with Windows 10 mining XMR stable overnight 12hours , no crash
Shutdown window machine , hook up Kill-a-watt meter

Hosting Windows 10 machine power use 50watt
Vega 64 power use while mining XMR = 300w
Total rig power use = 350w

According to
https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/xmr?HashingPower=2000&HashingUnit=H/s&PowerConsumption=300&CostPerkWh=.18
Using my power company base tier 1 rate $0.18 KWH , profit is $85 per month , $1K per year
Using my tier 2 rate $0.28 KWH , profit is $60 per month , $728 per year

EDIT: System been mining for 15 min, power usage actually went down to 340w for the mining rig

Lower Vega card voltage mod.
Follow this guide: Monero and Vega - the definitive guide • r/MoneroMining
Soft Power Play Table at Windows Registry section

modified 1100MHz HBM @ 905mV reg file to use /0001 folder , imported to Windows system , reboot

XMR hashrate drop very slightly, from 2,000 H/s to 1994 H/s

The big advantage is that now the whole rig is using 242w instead of 340w, fantastic payback.

$0.18 KWH power cost , monthly profit is $89
$0.28 KWH power cost, monthly profit is $72

Has anyone had luck getting more than one vega mining at once? I had 1800 h/s on one vega 56, but a second one (using 1x pcie risers) both of them run really slow now (lucky to get 1800h/s -combined- with two cards now)

From the blog site Vega Mining - A Consolidated Guide
Mining rig have 2 x Vega 64 and 2 x Vega 56 cards.
See the screenshot of the rig at the beginning of the post.

Edit, may be after Black Friday, hopefully, I would scored more Vega cards.

I do, Vega 56's flashed to 64 bios. I do NOT have them in risers. They are onboard right now. Getting 3500H/s

24 hours later, system still mining stable.

Disable windows auto update.
Enable startmining.bat 30 seconds after system boot.

Tested auto-start without any monitor or hdmi dummy plug in either VEGA card or Internal GPU port.

Stick a fork in it, call it done. Start mining for real.
Won't touch it for another 7 days.

Todo:
Power consumption may be still a bit high, according to the Reddit folks, my rigs may be 30w over ideal power usage.
Since, I have a Powercolor VEGA 64 card, may not able to shave another 30w.

Not tried on Linux yet.

It is working so good with Windows , after reading all the Vega card mining issues and voodoo magic on Reddit,
I am imposing self-control as is not messing it up.

Black Friday is almost here, hopefully, I could score another cheap Vega to experiment with Linux.

With the new Vega card mining XMR, we will be facing much higher Difficulty in next couple of months.
Enjoy the good time while we can.

I used to like CPU mining, after experiencing my first Vega card mining, it changed my way of thinking.

For comparison, I have a rig with a E5 v3 cpu mining XMR at 605 H/s ,
2 x RX480 doing 1500 H/s , combined 2.1 K H/s , consumes 420w.

The new Vega 64 took up one PCIe slot, the entire rig consumes 242w ( 50w for the hosting CPU + motherboard , 190w for the Vega 64 card ).

Edit, Wish there are more Vega card deals.

It seems that Vega hash/$ parameter will kill profitability on many CPUs :(
I was watching the last PowerColor Vega 64 sale on eBay and out of the 721 units they sold probably around 50%, if not more, went to miners (bought multiple cards). Many were also sold to new users with no prior feedback. So, those were likely new accounts created to circumvent the 3 unit limit.

Damn... I was holding out for some Black Friday goodness on Vega 56, but Newegg is sold out today.
