I have been forever waiting to buy ECC DDR4 ram.. but the prices have soared like crazy.. Last time (a few months back i brought 32GB used for 160 bucks on ebay), but now the same is close to twice even for a used/refurb model.
Whats going on? I am sure this topic has been debated and beaten to death.. I just need to catch on.. on a certain reddit tread folks were talking about ram prices gone up due to Mobile phone memory or even the SSD.
Not sure if that even makes sense.
Anyhow, are we expecting this trend to go away soon.. will the ecc ddr4 ram prices come down anytime soon?
Just want to plan finances accordingly.. hence.

Please guide.

I know DDR4 memory prices makes me super sad...I guess I'll be on my 2670v1's w/ an abundance of 16GB DDR3 memory for quite some time. Think I got those for $55-70 each and hell I cannot even get a 8GB DDR4 DIMM for that much now it seems.

BOOO :-(

12 months ago, I was loading up DDR4 memory when price was $60-$65 per 16gb stick ( not too often)
I brought 64 sticks last year and felt bad spending too much money.

I am all out of 16gb stick of DDR4 memory now, and had to buy 4gb and 8gb stick.

I refuse to pay the current price of 16gb stick , going back to use more DDR3 system .

I'm debating selling 4-8 sticks of DDR4 16 at 150$ seems like good time if I'm not using it all, then again I could use it and sell the 32GB LRDIMMS for much more $$ too... hmmm so many options now to spread the $ further if you have the RAM and don't need it...

Would suck to sell it and need it in a few months and it's still high though :-X

I been waiting over 12 months to buy more 16gb DDR4 money.
There is no way I am selling DDR4 memory, unless you know you wouldn't need more memory next 12 months.

Sometimes , I got lucky and able to buy 1 or 2 cheap 4/8gb stick ( like $15 for 4gb stick ).
I did managed to purchase few $25 per 8gb stick in the past months.
Now the newly build system are populate with 8 x 8gb or 16 x 4gb memory.

I think I read somewhere that the prices might come down in q4 2018/q1 2019, but can't remeber where I read that.

i still hope that at least the prices for 2133 modules will relax a bit as everybody wants / needs 2400 oder 2666 for the newer CPU.

@Patrick did you just say $160 for a 16gb ddr4 2400 used ??
Look on ebay, lowest was around 150 from China.

150+ From USA.

I paid $190/each new in 2015, and after that as @Marsh said we were paying 80-90 for the "good brands" from USA. (Samsung, Micron, etc)

Now the lower-end brands are 150$ from China, insane.

This camelcamelcamel chart pretty much tells it all for a random 16GB stick of 2400 DDR4...

A doubling of prices since August last year. I wish I’d invested in some surplus sticks.

The only good news in the drama is that prices of a single 64GB DIMM look "reasonable" (I mean compared to the 32GB ones) ;-)
The single module of 64GB used to cost 4 times more than the 32, now it is the same (i.e. roughly twice the 32GB price).
Now the 128GB modules cost 4 times the price of 64GB (with almost zero availability), but I hope the 64GB will not follow the same path of doubling the price to match the 128 ones, like the 32 did.

;-)

I did not expect prices to crash but I did not expect the huge increase either !

This is for non ecc ddr4 right? seems like 2133 ddr4 ecc is more reasonable at around $100 for 16gb sticks. hence another reason why 2011 v3/v4 is still competitive compared to whatever the latest and greatest superhigh end single cpu socket that intel and amd is throwing out right now that only use non ecc ddr4.

managed to get 6x 4Gb Hynix for € 16.66 inc vat/pc - not really great and what i want but much better than having not a single module left soon.

@wildpig1234 guess its mainly about DDR4 ECC RDIMMs

I wouldn't expect DRAM prices to come down until either a density transition occurs or new capacity comes online. The market is largely capacity constrained atm.

No, we're talking about RDIMM.

Please show me where you're getting DDR4 RDIMM 2133 for $100/stick...

Here's a screenshot of cheapest on ebay for this query at the moment... searching PC4-2133 16 yields some others.
