I can help you with the firmware tomorrow... there's an upgrade path in the user guide, you basically have to upgrade to the last 2.x firmware and then move to the 3.x firmware.

I have all the firmwares on my drive and can link you. You have the current driver, you just need the latest firmware from IBM.

You can use a dell firmware with an IBM branded ioDrive, it has to be an IBM firmware.

That's what I wanted to tell. You have to jump through multiple versions of firmwares before you can upgrade to the latest.

Yup, the upgrade path is 1.2.4 -> 1.2.7 -> 1.2.8 -> 2.1.0 -> 2.3.1 -> 3.2.15

Here's a list from my personal list of VSL versions and their associated firmware versions.

There are some holes to fill in on this list, but all the important info is there for the upgrade path.

Code:
VSL Firmware
1.2.7.2 3.0.0.36867
1.2.8.4 3.0.3.43246
2.0.0 4.0.1.41356
2.0.2-pre2 5.0.1.42685
2.1.0 5.0.1.42895
2.1.0 5.0.3.43247 (firmware update)
2.2.0 5.0.5.43674
2.2.3 5.0.6.101583
2.3.0 5.0.7.101971?
2.3.1 5.0.7.101971
2.3.10.110 5.0.7.107053
3.1.1.172 6.0.0.107004
3.1.1 7.0.2.108609
3.1.5 7.0.0.107322
3.2.1 ?
3.2.10 7.1.17.116786
3.2.14 7.1.17.116786
3.2.15 7.1.17.116786 (Yes, the firmware hasn't changed from 3.2.10, only driver changes)

Am I missing anything?

Edit: I was able to update the firmware to the latest and after a reboot, it said it needed to run an integrity check, another reboot (which took much longer than usual) and it then showed up and even was NTFS formatted.

Has anybody tested the iodrive as zil/l2arc device in freebsd or freenas?
Can't find any information except that there was an proprietary driver available from fusionio (posts dated from 2012/13 in the freebsd forum).:(

They work fine in FreeNAS.

Sadly, no one has gotten them to work in Proxmox :( Which is where I'd REALLY like them to work for some mini-nodes with saweeet performance!

Just picked up 2 ioDrive-II 1.2TB for $250 each. I know nothing about these other than what I've read in spec sheet material. Just read this entire thread; made note of the firmware upgrade path. Not sure what I will do with them, but was thinking about using them for L2ARC/ZIL for a ZoL server I'm building...

It looks really good! Let us know how the usage stats are when you get some time. ;)
i will, but not soon. have to deal with yet another messed up transaction on eBay... every time i order CPUs on eBay, inevitably something goes wrong; one guy said he had a family crisis and then never delivered and stopped responding and now i'm waiting for the open case to take it's course so that eBay will refund me. Today I got my order for a pair of E5-2670v2 ES QDNR, except I got 1x QDNR and 1x SR1A7 with damage on the corner of the PCB.
