I've got a C6100, and i'm trying to upgrade one of the nodes.

They currently have 2x e5506

I bought a W3520 and a E5645

I tried putting the W3520 & E5645, the screen stays blank and doesn't boot.

I then put a E5506 in CPU 0, and W3520 in CPU 1. Still not boot

I just tried booting with 1x E5506 in CPU 0 no boot !

I put both E5506 back and then it boots again...

I don't have enough thermal paste to keep changing the CPUs around... I must be doing something wrong is missing something !

Do the servers only support matched CPUs? Or the same models ?

Many thanks for your replys...

I am no expert on LGA1366 CPUs but according to its ark.intel.com page, W3520 is not meant for dual CPU use (Max CPU configuration is 1, whereas for your E5645 it is 2).

you can't mix CPU. It must be the same model. In some case needs to be the same stepping.

If I try the E5645 in CPU 0 and have no CPU in CPU 1, will that still work with only one CPU?

Only reason I asked is I had the same no boot issue when I tried to boot from
1x E5506
