Hello all,

So recently I purchased a server off ebay.ca (24 Bay FreeNAS Chenbro RM41824 4u 2x E5-2650, 64GB RAM, 3x LSI SAS9211-8i, | eBay). Now without thinking about it I didn't notice that the only way other then the impi to connect the server to the network is using the dual 10Gb SFP+ ports.

For now I would like to avoid upgrading the entire network to 10Gb. I have found some 1gbit rj45 transceivers but I am unsure as to if they would work in the server for taking the 10Gb spf+ port down to a 1Gb rj45 port.

Links:
Server: 24 Bay FreeNAS Chenbro RM41824 4u 2x E5-2650, 64GB RAM, 3x LSI SAS9211-8i, | eBay
Transceiver: FiberHal for Cisco GLC-T Copper SFP Module, Gigabit RJ45 Mini-GBIC, 1000Base-T SFP Transceiver, Reach 100m: Amazon.ca: Tools & Home Improvement
Model of Nic provided by Ubuntu intel: 82599es 10 gigabit sfp+

If this is possible I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,

azev

I've never tried installing 1gb copper sfp on a 10gb nics, but I do know it works on most cisco switches.
