But I'm scaling out so windows server hpc pack update3 power shell and ffmpeg. Just thinking I can fit 5 m40s in my super micro case that could handle up to 9600 fps. Mind you encoding at higher quality setrings it will take a speed hit but running 20 encodes at up to 480 fps without straining the CPU would be pretty awesome!

@Radar Dude Are you sure it is not just a standard PCIe cable? We had them in a test system just after having desktop GPUs and did not have to swap out power cables.

Yes, it is normal PCI-E. I was mistaken. I deleted the question before I saw your reply. Thank you for responding.

So, 4 x GM107 640's on one card with a pcie bridge, is that right?

Shaders, memory, clock, architecture sure look like a 750Ti to me. Just 4 of them on one board without the display plugs.

Did I get that right? If so, is it really worth twice the price of an equivalent number of 750Ti's for someone with enough PCIe slots?

It does have more memory than a 980Ti with equivalent shaders / clocks / architecture but has similar rated power. Looks like a tempting toy for BOINC'ing but a grand is a bit pricey for a play toy.

@fractal I think these are actually net much lower power than the 750 Ti was. They are also much more compact so I had two cards for 8x GM107L's in a blade server.

Hi, I just purchased 2 of these :) i have been looking at drivers from the NVIDIA page and nothing seems to show support for M40's.

Im wondering if someone can point me in the direction of the drivers?

Hi,

So i installed my M40's in windows 10 Pro and they show in my Device Manager (Microsoft Basic Display Adapter). All 8 plus my Titan

The issue is i cant install a driver to get them to work? All the drivers say i have unsupported hardware.

369.73-tesla-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql
376.33-quadro-grid-desktop-notebook-win10-64bit-international-whql

I also have the Geforce driver installed for the titan.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks

Looks like most of the Grid M40s were originally sold via HP and drivers appear to be a blackhole. Even Nvidia forums link back to STH
and seem to point that it's not an official supported item.

There does appear to be 3rd party posted modified Nvidia drivers on onedrive but no way to prove/verify legitimacy.
It would appear that someone figured out what Nvidia drivers can be used if the proper hardware ids are added.

I just posted there, See what happens - Nvidia Grid M40 Driver for Windows - NVIDIA GRID Forums

I downloaded it just now, Interesting.

It seems its from eurocom they sell MXM upgrades and they are usually bios drivers this seems like it has a PCI ID list they add to enable the driver. Sketchy though as not sure you would get full utilisation

P.S it didnt work straight off the bat, Il try find the PCI ID of the M40 and add it.

I would like to verify if my suspicion is correct. the article was talking about gpumodeswitch. I take it that you can't use the card to host vm displays and cuda at the same time. or is it possible to set 1 core to gpu mode and one to cuda? nvidia's information is painfully lacking on usage but they love spewing out how great they are for everything.

I have been deliberating between a w9100 ati card and any thing from a k1 to a p100 if i can find one at a reasonable price. as far as i can tell the w9100 I can use dual purpose at the same time where as the nvidias don't seem to be as flexible.

You can split them in a KVM and issue them out to VM's.

I can get P100's from work at cost price around $8k Aus

that's good to hear It would have been supremely aggravating if it was 1 video card must be all cuda or all vm video. is that split on a per gpu basis or is it able to hand out both from a single gpu core?

side note the M40 that is in the article appears to be a M10 per wikipedia

M10 4Xgm107 2560 cuda cores 4X8192mb ram
M40 1Xgm200 3072 cuda cores 12288mb ram

The GRID M40 has half the RAM per GPU of the M10.

The other bit is that these work well for CUDA but they are not VM video supported IIRC.

You can assign a different GPU to different VMs or a Docker containers.
