The same server also sells at newegg at the same price.

Reviews on Amazon is not kind. So maybe it doesn't worth the price.

Yep. Think I'll keep looking. As always, you get what you pay for. :)

You probably won't get burned if you wear gloves when you touch it.

But you should just dump your data to /dev/null instead of on there. It'd be faster.

I'm looking for a 2 bay NAS to replace a POS Lenovo ix2 that I can't get going because of it's Chinese os/boot partition gibberish. Think I'll just bite the bullet and get a Synology and be done with it.

@Fritz I have a handful of NIB 2Bay NAS devices I was going to use / setup for friends but have gone more AIO route for them.

One is a QNAP T-231 and some are older/other cheaper units... if you want one of those other cheaper ones shipping and it could be yours. Shoot me a PM if that interests you, I am likely going to donate/junk them.

This is clearly a safe choice.

I needed a NAS to expand my time machine backups that are was filling a DS215 with a pair of 3TB WD reds.

So I picked up a N40L for 153 delivered ( HP Proliant MicroServer AMD Turion II Neo G7 N40L 1.50GHz 2GB 250GB ) and 4 of the 2TB enterprise drives listed in this forum. I spent a few minutes updating the bios before I installed it just in case I want to use the extra ports or the eSata port multiplier. I added an 8 dollar Cruizer fit with NAS4Free and I now have 6 TB usable to hold all the crap I was dumping on the time machine server because it was a convenient place to dump it. Time machine is happy again and I am out a little over 300 USD.

Like I said. The Synology is clearly a safe choice. But, a microserver with an open source NAS package of your choice is more satisfying and at least as reliable.
