for DELL PERC H800 Adapter, it's listed as having internal ports. I can only find ones with external ports. Is this a mistake or some magical impossible to find card?

Also, slightly off topic, but DELL says that the H800 doesn't work with SATA drives. WTF? Shouldn't this work?
Not sure where you see the h800 having internal ports, but it is external only. The h700 is the internal port model. As for the sata only thing, im guessing its some sort of CYA from dell since they cant account for which drive chassis it will be plugged into.

looks like a typo from the OP. If you click the link right beneath it, it clearly states h800 = external ports

"Dell 6Gbps SAS HBA 2x4 port internal SAS Horizontal" should be "Dell 6Gbps SAS HBA 2x4 port external SAS" in the SAS2008 section, first line of the Dell subsection. These are simple SAS2008 cards designed to run IT mode only with 8 external ports (2 x 8088 connectors). I have one running 9211-8i IT mode firmware connected to two of the Rackable SE3016 enclosures via standard 8088 <-> 8088 cables, for ZFS. Much better solution than something like the M1015 with 8087 <-> 8088 cables snaked through the case and out through a hole.

I cant find any information that suggests Intel Raid Controller RS3WC080 is a HBA or is crossflashable into IT mode. Can anyone confirm that this is a HBA?

Hi all, I am new here :)


I have an IBM H1110 , and would like to cross flash it to IT mode

I have read the general instructions for flashing M1015 and other popular cards

But I am not sure what to do with the H1110


First Question that comes to mind, is what is the equivalent LSI, and what IT firmware might be compatible?

Am I to assume that m1015’s firmware is generic and might support H1110 ?
Any other links to possible compatible firmware ?


Anyone has tried to test cross flashing on this card ?

Am I missing something from the IBM website ? Is there an IBM supported IT firmware, or is cross flashing the only option ?


Any help appreciated :)


H1110 is a very cheap card to find in ebay. It is a PCI 2.0 x4 card. So it is interesting for microservers, and platforms/motherboards that only support PCIe 4x and not PCIe 8x.

I do confirm that H1110 can be cross flashed to LSI 9211-4i, IT mode, latest BIOS/Firmware P20 :)

Edit - I forgot to mention that 9340-8i and 9341-8i can be crossflashed to 9300-8i as per the cross flashing thread, which I don't see reflected here yet.

I don't see the sas3 expanders listed such as:
Intel RES3FV288 - 28 channels internal, 8 channels external, PCIe or Molex power
Intel RES3TV360 - 36 channels internal, Molex power only

Also, I was wondering if you wanted to add LSI based Supermicro expander backplanes here with some general notes on them?

The above are from memory, but I am pretty sure they are all correct other than some may have extra or missing dashes. I don't know the lineup of SAS3 expander backplanes - anyone else?

Backplanes do technically open up a whole can of worms since many servers use LSI expanders in their backplanes and drive cages, but the Supermicros in particular are very popular here.

Please reformat as needed!

I didn't realize at first, but I have a new card variant, posting separately to avoid confusion with all of my edits above:
  • LSI SAS 9300-16i 4x4 HD ports SAS internal, no cache, no BBU, IR/IT mode only firmware, 2 2308 cards in 1 PCIe 3.0 x8 slot, has 3-pin extra power connector like a GPU, but is flashable without it connected, when flashing, be sure to flash BOTH cards - c 0 and -c 1 with firmware (BIOS/UEFI is probably less important to get onto both cards, and ensure each cards has the correct SAS address as well)

Can anyone explain me the difference between MR and iMR controller. I bought a used 9280-4e4i and when I tried to update the latest firmware from MSM it says I can't flash a MR firmware to an iMR controller. So the controller I have seems to be iMR. Is that OEM?

Any pointers on how to flash the card would be greatly appreciated. I have some experience in cross flashing Dell H200 to IT firmware before. So not a complete novice. I would need the RAID functionality and was trying to use a advanced feature key to enable cachecade.

My understanding is that MR and iMR run similar base firmware, but iMR cards don't have DDR memory and are generally feature limited compared to full MR.

Got an M5210 I would like to crossflash to LSI having issues with MSM and sas3flash in uefi does not recognize that the card is even installed. MegaCLI are there command lists available and where?

Headsup: Broadcom (formerly Avago) have a couple of new SAS bits out:

Controllers:

HBA/cacheless RAID: SAS2116 (nothing on the official site, but it's listed on Supermicro's), SAS3216, SAS3224

RAID controllers (with cache support): SAS3316, SAS3324

Cards:

SAS 9302-16e, Dual SAS3008, FHHL PCIe x16, 4x mini -SAS HD SFF-8644 ports
SAS 9311-4i4e, Single SAS3008, HHHL PCIe x8, 1x mini -SAS HD SFF-8643 port, 1x mini -SAS HD SFF-8644 port

SAS 9305-24i, Single SAS3224, HHHL PCIe x8, 6x mini -SAS HD SFF-8643 ports
SAS 9305-16i, Single SAS3224, HHHL PCIe x8, 4x mini -SAS HD SFF-8643 ports
SAS 9305-16e, Single SAS3216, HHHL PCIe x8, 4x mini -SAS HD SFF-8644 ports

SAS 9362-8i, Single SAS3108, HHHL PCIe x8, 2x mini-SAS HD SFF8643 ports, supports CacheVault module (LSICVM02)

Other thoughts/commentary:

I suspect the SAS3x16 controllers are just SAS3x24 controllers with 8 of the PHYs disabled (and probably laser-cut off), Likely done entirely to raise usable wafer yields.
I also suspect the 9305-16i of being convertible to a 9305-24i by adding the two missing SFF-8643 connectors and force-flashing to a 9305-24i. Reason being the identical-looking PCB. Likely Broadcom is using the same line for the assembly, and the -16i cards get culled before the final addition of the top-mounted 8 ports. Looks like it's cheaper to "waste" 8ports than it is to run two assembly lines for the 2 different chipsets these days... I wonder if we'll see -16i8e, -8i16e or -24e cards later down the line...
Lastly, it looks like the SAS9362 cards are a modified smaller-PCB version of the 9361. By the looks of it for Fujitsu initially, based on the ebay listings.
