i think my problem is drive aligment
fdisk /dev/da1 shows sectors of 512 but they're supposed to be 4k for zfs right?

Sectors size is decided by the drive. ZFS can be aligned to 4k disks using ashift=12. 512 disks can use either ashift=9 or ashift=12.i think my problem is drive aligment

Well the Cayman S rear trunk can fit up to a 4U server outside of its cardboard box.LOL! I wonder how well a 2U would do on the skid pad.

thing is how to get it to do that, because by default they add to a pool as ashift=9Sectors size is decided by the drive. ZFS can be aligned to 4k disks using ashift=12. 512 disks can use either ashift=9 or ashift=12.
i'll give that a shot. googling had a bunch of convoluted solutions for freebsdzpool create -o ashift=12 tank mirror sda sdb
