Also does USB 3 which might be a bit faster at this point. I really wanted to use those types of units, but the power supplies and such are usually scary.

I can pretty much agree with everyone here, I am not OK with esata with more than one drive attached. Some people don't have the budget and know how to use a decent controller with decent storage. I think this would be a decent device for a shoho environment.

Any storage product that comes with a little keylock and two keys is always garbage

I was thinking of getting a USB2 4 bay version, stripping out the backplane and then trying to find a compatible backplane from Intel or the like to replace it. Add in some SATA -> SAS cabling and you get 4 channels for 4 drives. The USB version was being sold for around US$100. Saying that I am now looking to stock and offer the NSC-400 unit with 4x hotswap, 2 internal drive mountings and the FSP 250W PSU for around US$140 + delivery so not sure I will bother with the Hotway now.
