LSI9261-8i arrived today.

Looks nice with the connectors at the back, makes for a much shorter path to the drives.
Battery has zero cycles :), made in Feb 2012, very happy with this.

First thing you notice at boot time with this card is the different splash screen at boot.
M5015 only shows the number of virtual drives.
The 9261 shows all the drives attached and also battery state, quite neat, but ruined with the 8th drive needing to go over the next page, why not with an 8 port controller show all the drives on one page.
With the M5015 also in the machine it also displays this more detailed view

Cachecade key is installed, it's v2 but not the pro (pro = write caching)
Fastpath and all other keys are enabled.
Quick zip around to LSI and grabbed the trial key for CC pro 2.0, which enables it for 30days
I did add 2x SSD's to the 6x2TB drives and setup a RAID6 array.
Not done any benches yet.

Did discover that SBRs are device specific.
The LSI SBR in my zip file is for the LSI9260-8i, us this and the 9261 becomes 9260
Factory reset brings back the original SBR which I need to copy and put in Zip

LiPolymer battery has the slightly different settings in the LSI BIOS with the modes I must study as to what they do.

With UEFI booting to Server2k12, all 3 LSI cards worked right away (M1015/5015/9261)
When rebooting to BIOS mode, things were less stable, some of the cards would boot, but not next boot.
The OptionROM and running out of room I think has something to do with this.
One thing the M1015 always booted, just the SAS2108 cards didn't always.

Over all very happy with this card.
I'll get rid of the M5015 to make room for something else.

Also to note for folk looking at the LSI9261:

It has no Hardware key header so the hardware keys for the LSI9260 won't fit the 9261 :(
The header for the fault LEDs is also not there, no biggy I doubt any uses this
But there is a header on the back of the card for the remote BBU mounting kit to go into, might be something useful for some

I have flashed 2 M5014 to 9260-8i Firmware 0111, unfortunately on the 2nd card I forgot to reboot between flashing the LSI SBR and the LSI Firmware. Since then this card just makes “Beeep-Beeep-Beeep-Beeep…”. I tried several other SBR and Firmwares since then, but as soon as a SBR is flashed the card beeps after reboot.
Is there any way I can recover from this condition?

Does the BIOS splash screen show ?
If you can enter the BIOS then select Factory default/reset.
It will reset the SBR to default OEM.

or

Have you tried
Megarec -cleanflash 0
and just start again ?

Possibly take out all but problem card to make it easier.

So I now started all over again.
Now a splash screen is shown: "Unrecoverable error! Please check the SDRAM connection. If the Problem persists contact the tech support. Press any key to continue."
But I cannot enter the Bios.

I think something got mixed up and the BIOS is expecting 512MB.
I will now get the original SBR from another M5014 and try flashing this.

Do you have another suggestion in case this does not work? Is there another way to make a factory reset?

Edit: I've now tried flashing with the original SBR, and I have another clarification.
The beeping doesn't start after flashing the SBR but after flashing the Firmware.

Renamed SBRLSI.bin to SBR9260.bin to reflect what controller it came from
Added SBR9261.bin
Added 0047.rom IBM Firmware with Active drive spindown (same as 0048)
Added Latest Win8 and Server 2k12 drivers.

Could really do with SBR for M5014

hi folks,

thanks to this thread i just flashed my m1015 to IT mode. but darn, i shouldve came in here and read a bit more carefully. im putting this in a server 2012 box and realized there are 2012 drivers! i actually just used the guide on this forum and the drivers from http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/29059-sas2008-lsi92409211-firmware-files/ to flash the card with. how do i update with these files? is it just as simple as copying the 2012 files into the xxx:\sas2008\lsi9211_windows_driver_2.0.55??

edit:
i think im okay...looks like i have the latest drivers. the laptopvideo2g0 link was also updated as of 10/16/2012 (today).

There are no LSI9211 (SAS2008) updated Win Server 2k12 drivers yet.
You are posting in M5015 (SAS2108) thread, which does have new drivers for Win8/Server 2k12

LSI9211 (M1015 in IR or IR mode) = SAS2008

Hey guys,

I just got my 5014 flashed with the guide linked off the front page and I'd like to make sure I did it correctly. Megaraid software still shows 5014. (see screenshot) Is this normal or should I attempt to re-flash?

Are you happy in how it works ?

The only tweak you could do would be to flash the SBR to a LSI9260-8i
Will make boot time faster
But you would have to start process again to do so.

But other than that you are fully functional.

Thanks for the reply; yeah, I'm happy with how it's working for the most part, but I do have two issues:

1> Booting is flaky. Sometimes the FW doesn't initialize correctly and sometimes (seemingly randomly) for some reason the system will only try PXE booting off my NIC. That said, I suspect this is more a result of my motherboard (Supermicro X7SBA) than the 5014.
2> (This I could use more help with) I'd like to enable SSD caching for my array and potentially buy CacheCade, but I can't seem to get SSD caching working. I have a WD 60GB SSD lying around (which sucks, hence why it's lying around) that I wanted to use to just test the config. I found the place to enable SSD caching (Adapter properties in the Web Bios) but when I go to enable it my 6 disk RAID 5 array doesn't show up as a valid virtual disk to put cache in front of. Additionally, the adapter got REALLY flaky when I had the SSD plugged in; only in about 1 of 10 boots would the OS see the adapter correctly. The adapter even "Fell off" the os at one point after booting with the SSD connected. After removing the SSD it does seem stable again. The SSD does work fine when connected by itself to the motherboard.

Does anyone know definitively how to setup a cache drive? Is there a reason a RAID 5 array wouldn't show up as a cache target? Has anyone else experienced anything weird like I did with an SSD connected?

Thanks!

Added:

12.12.0-0103 from Hitachi
CCNVDT.ROM is what Hitachi included as well, you can use Megarec to flash this also (NVDT part of the Firmware)
No idea what it does, possibly Cachecade or Consistency Check tweak.

Hi Moblenvidia,

I am about to use my IBM M5015 with the BBU and raid 6 and 60 key. I am thinking of using this card on a Windows 8 Pro 64bit system and I read that you are using Windows 8 as well.

What is the best setup (or versions) that you are using with this card on Windows 8 as far as firmware, bios, drivers? I will be setting my system up with 6 - 1TB SATA III hard drives and 2 - 128GB SATA III SSD drives.
