SGI 3U Omnistor SE3016 Expander chassis - Any experiences?

Ebay seems to be flooding over with these expander chassis these days, anyone got any experience with them or could tell if they are ok to use in a home server setup?

I think the big thing is that they are not super easy to service and use a 3.0gbps expander.

BTW the LSI MegaRAID 8888ELP a lot of those come with is a 1078 based card :-( but the (really) cool thing about it is that the card can have 8 ports EITHER internal or external! Has both, you pick which to use. Really wish this became a standard feature.

Yeah, the main problem I noticed aswell was the 3Gbps, are there any other expander solutions that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Last time I needed one I built it from parts, but wouldn't mind getting a factory made one this time around.
