I have used the same HBA with the same backplane without issue.

Updating the firmware on the HBA is extremely easy and I would recommend doing so. The firmware update includes instructions, it's very easy to follow. You can download it via the product page:

Do note the documentation has information for both the EL1 and EL2 variant but hopefully you find reading it useful. You do not want to go the route of trying to update anything on the backplane firmware wise. From my personal experience it's not worth it unless you have a very good reason.
